If I have to out-advertise you, I will lose. If I need to pay you to listen to reason, I can tell you I don’t have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a long career of mistakes. Skills that make me seem extremely arrogant in text but also make my ideas entertaining to read. If you let your delusions go now that will be the end of it. I will not say you are too stupid to insult and I will stop yelling at you on the Internet. Herculean Hypertrophy and Milo’s Mass

In any field of science, particularly applied sciences, The Literature™ does not come out until long after the science has been hypothesized, practiced, and preached. Shamans were curing people long before Fleming discovered penicillin. We can only hope experiments validate that which we have conjured up in our measly brains or learned from the elders, but we are seldom this lucky, as is the case for shamans healing cancer by aligning chakras or whatever it is they do. Resistance training (RT) has been around in its modern form, with barbells and such, for the better part of a century, perhaps a little longer. However, the dumbbell and similar items have been around for thousands of years, and physical training of some form is likely prehistoric. In comparison, The Literature™ is in its infancy. Old habits die hard, but sooner or later we have to burn off the deadwood. (more…)

Becoming a Lifter – Intermittent Programming Disease (IPD)

The Reader is now quite familiar with strength and its application. He understands the nature of athleticism and has accepted the harsh truths that lie therein. He has also completed the Novice Linear Progression (NLP), as taught and prescribed by Mark Rippetoe of Starting Strength. If the Reader has not completed his 6-12 weeks, he will go do that before he returns to this page, as he has not yet tapped his ability to put more weight on the bar every time he enters the gym. And, if he can do that, why wouldn’t he?

What Is Athleticism?

The term athlete is bandied about quite loosely and seems to denote any person who participates in a sport. In our postmodern Hellscape, an athlete can even mean one who plays video games. Men’s Journal covered some gamer “training” at the Red Bull facility in Santa Monica, California, in case my Dear Reader needed another reason to feel as if they have underachieved in this life. I see athleticism as a spectrum of capacity. An athlete’s genetics, training experience, and accumulated skill amalgamate into their athleticism. (more…)

The Homo sapiens interacts with his environment as if he is a system of levers. In this way, he can be called a machine. His body is a device used to multiply the force he creates with the ground. DANGER – Exercise Variation Lurking Ahead

Millions of people have sprinted into my DM’s inquiring about exercise variation. So, today, I’d like to broach this topic and discuss why I believe many “experts” out there hide behind it. There are many of these experts in the fitness industry, so this blog post is going to be imperative. Western civilization’s current health status is a rather gnarly indictment of these authority figures. We’re a generation of fat men and women raised by experts.
